Recent Inquiry - NOT AUTHORIZED

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping you guys can help me out regarding a recent inquiry that I see on my report that was not authorized by me.

Im signed up for credit sesame and received an alert this morning regarding a mortgage company running my credit.

After seeing the alert, I pulled my full report from Experian and confirmed that their is indeed a new inquiry for a mortgage on my report!

What can I do about this? Im not happy about the inquiry but at this point im more concerned about identity theft.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks MyFico memeber...

Re: Recent Inquiry - NOT AUTHORIZED

Was it a hard or soft inquiry?

It is possible that their inquiry may have related to a current credit obligation you have without another, and they are considering investing, insuring, or servicing that current creditor.  Perhaps they are consiering purchase of a mortgage portfolio.  Do you have an existing mortgage?

FCRA 604(a)(3)(E) provides for permissible purpose of assessing the credit or prepayment risks associated with accounts of other creditors with whom they are consiering such actions.  With permissible purpose, they require no specific authorization from the consumer.

However, such inquiries are not associated with initiation of credit by the consumer, and thus are required to be excluded from any credit report provided to others (i.e., thye must be coded as "soft").

Other than that possible scenario, if you have no business realtionship with them, I dont see a permissible purpose.

You can contac the CRA and get their stated permissible purpose.
