No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Is there a list of which ones do a credit pull everytime you rent a car? Would it be a soft pull? I have read that Thrifty will pull your credit and deny a rental based on whether or not they like your score so does that mean it's a soft pull? Do they really do them every single time you rent or just the first time? Or is it for debit card users?
And is it true one dispute could get you blacklisted for all rental companies? It seems a bit extrme for a partial refund dispute..especially if it wasn't even the first rental.
Edit - I did search and it does seem like the ones that accept debit cards do a credit check. Someone posted Avis/Budget swore to them they did a "SP" but it was a hard pull with a debit. So, no thanks.
Anyone know about the blacklisting?
I know Enterprise does not with a credit card. My understanding is rental car co got burned ie the car is gone with a lot of cash and debit card deposits My local enterprise office wont take cash or debit cards.
Hey Alt,
Back is correct. If you have a valid credit card they don't do a Credit Pull. Also you should do a search on this subject on myfico, you will find people have already answered this question.

Thanks, I did search. I mentioned that in my original post so guess you didn't read the entire thing any better than I searched. Lol
Many posts that came up were from 2007 and 2011..so maybe the forum still has some glitches with search features.
Anyone know anything about rental car blacklisting? Mods? When I search for that I kept getting threads talking about getting into accidents with rental cars or people who burned someone renting apartments.

No major rental car company (though I can only personally confirm Hertz, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, SIXT, and Enterprise) has ever hard pulled credit as part of a rental with them. If they are, there's something way off with your profile or way off with that company. I rent dozens of times a year and not once have taken a HP. Truth be told, I have not rented with a debit card in at least 10 years, but back then I didn't take any HPs either. Even then, I don't recommend anyone pays for travel expenses witha debit card, though. Debit cards + travel = hassle. If you can avoid it, do so.
Can't speak for disputes as I've never had to make one, but I will say there's a bit of "you get what you pay for" in the rental car world. If you rent from a budget rental place (Thrifty and SIXT come to mind here), they tend to have a bit lower customer service and tend to be more scrutinizing of every car you bring back. The big ones like Avis and Hertz tend to be less so. I've returned cars (yes, more than one) to Hertz with cracked windshields with no additional bills while I'll get the 'prove it' treatment with so much as a minor scratch that was already on the car at a place like Thrifty. It's a big part of why these days I only rent from Avis/Hertz, regardless of price.
Thanks Iced. I was looking into Hertz, Enterprise and Thrifty. I've only used Budget and Enterprise for their weekend deals. I had an issue with Budget with my last rental so want to go elsewhere this time for backup. Maybe I'll just try Avis even if it's the same company. I thought Thrifty was up there with Budget..didn't realize they were on the lower end like EZRental or whatever. I'll definitely be using a credit card and not a debit.
Budget and Avis never gave me a problem with the gas which I like...same with Enterprise. I used to fill the tank within 10 miles of the airport but then realized other people weren't doing that and I wasn't getting a full tank so I'd fill it further away too. They only check the line not the digital how many miles of the tank are left. Someone else mentioned Hertz on here..maybe I'll try a local rental to see how it goes before I leave the state again.
Here ya go AlttCtrlDelMyScores (clever name btw)...................
I provided a little help clearing up OP's issue and @CreditGuyInDixie provided a very useful link as well as to what other rental companies rental procedures are. Have a great day!
