Is it possible to reopen a once bad account, but was paid a couple of years ago? I had a Cap1 card and settled with them and it was closed. But, now Cap1 keeps sending me "pre approved" CC applications. So I was thinking if I can reopen the card, if it is even possible, would that help my credit score. Also, I had a bad Providian account and settled with them 2 years ago. A month ago I got approved for a Washington Mutual account. I didn't realize they are with Providian. Since I now have this CC, can I see if they will delete the other baddie on my CR (which is now listed as WashMut/Providian. Or will this hurt my score because of "history"? How much does history effect your score? And one more question, is there an SOL for collecting money on a traffic ticket? It's not listed on my CR, but the other day I ran my DMV record and there is a ticket from 04 in collections. I wondered why it wasn't my CR as well?

What they will do is open a new account IF you are approved.Providian grrrrrrr just as hard to work with as Cap1.What is the DOFD on these COs......are they due to drop soon??History is 30% of your score....Every time you get new credit you delute your credit........IMO I would prefer to have short history & NOT have a CO on my CRI had 1 CO from Providian & when it dropped (7 years after CO) My scores went up over 50 points
