I am in the process of trying to clean up my credit. I was very irresponsible during college and now have a score that’s in the low 500’s. I just pulled MY FICO report today and I have a public notice for a credit card amount $3,547 that was filed on June 1, 2007. I did receive a summons that I ignored (regretfully). What is the next course of action that I can take? As of now, I haven’t acknowledged this debt.
Contact the lawyers that sued you and work out a settlement. Most of the time they'll agree. The longer the judgment stays unpaid the more interest that is added and it could become almost impossible to pay later on.
