i disputed a medical collection, and the response i received from equifax was that the item was no longer being reported on my equifax credit file. my fico score went up one point, but when i pulled my current credit report earlier today, the score was actually 10 points lower, and the collection was still on the report.
i understood that no longer reporting meant it was removed from my credit. wrong?
and does it take a certain amount of time for them to update the credit file after they remove an item?
tbrooks,
Perhaps I can help you understand what's happening. When EQ said that the item was no longer reporting they meant exactly, that nothing more. The fact that your FICO score went up 1 pt. may or may not be related. I suspect not. I have to assume you subscribe to Score Watch and that's what you're referring to when you say, "... the score was actually 10 pts. lower." Remember that FICO scores are the only ones we care about. The medical collection is a negative in your report and it will remain there for 7 years. You are incorrect when you said that "...no longer reporting meant it was removed." Finally, it does take at minimum 30 days for individual accts. to update on your report but in your case there's nothing to update.
Good luck
The item was a medical collection, that had i was never able to pay off. after me moved, a year later i was sent a summons. i tried to pay the hospital directly, but was told i would have to go to the courthouse and pay the judgement. i did that. i filed a dispute because i should have been able to pay the hospital directly.
live and learn i guess. providing for 4 kids and a wife is hard enough. having medical collections that that my insurance paid 80% up front, and i just didnt have the money to pay the rest just sucks.
i have 1 judgement, and 7 collections. 6 from one doctor. all of them total are for less that 1500. all of them i have paid in full.
I dont know how much a paid collection hurts your score, but i just dont agree with making good on a collection, and having to pay the price for it 7 years.
everything else on my credit is in good standing.
A paid judgment must be deleted 7 years from the date filed. They only way to have it deleted is to have it *vacated* which is done by the company that filed it.
paid medical collections:
Opt-out with the CRAs https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t''
Hand write a medical dispute with all CRAs reporting.
Who did you pay the OC or the CA?
On the 6 collections with the same doc.......each must be reported separate wih the DOFD as the date of service.
medical collections must delete 7 years from DOFD not date paid.

Hi...I'm just reading and learning. Can I ask why you urge the OP to opt out with the CRAs in this instance? What does that do for him?
Thanks,
Thanks for the information. I had very good luck with the doctor and her billing department. they were more than happy to help getting the CA to resend the collections, but the manager at the CA, which is a local office, basically told me in writing that i should have paid them on time, and that they do not do that for people. so i have alot to learn and a ways to go, just wishing i could get it all straigthened up by this time next year. ive got 10 acres waiting on a house. its been sitting for 2 years.
