Score vs cash

My score took a 7 point hit this month. My CITI card reported a balance of $3000 vs $7000 limit, putting me at over 40% utilization on that card. I have autopay set up to pay in full so that isn't a balance I'm carrying, just moved the bulk of my spending to that card to get the 2% cash back.

Yeah I could pay before the statement cuts, but I'm in the garden so it isn't worth the hassle. I will let autopay take care of it for now.

I wonder if letting these balances report then pay in full will give CITI a hint to raise my limit. For now that are not offering me a soft pull increase. I'll let it go s few months and see.

I forget CIS do you have a derogatory or deliquency on your file?  Interesting to see the movement at 40%, I didn't get that on my file when I was testing but I'm seeing if I can get a control point this month (unfortunately I have too many balances reporting unfortunately and I started too late trying to get this datapoint after realizing I was going to max out the JCB).

Anyway while I didn't really see a question here, fact is finances > FICO so I applaud you about not worrying about transient score changes and do what makes sense financially.

Re: Score vs cash

No derogatories. Short credit history is what holds e me back, my oldest account is 1.5 years.

I basically want from minimal utilization to utilization because I moved spending from my PRG charge card to my CITI double cash. So I went from 1% utilization to 5% and from negligible utilization on any card to 40%.

My spending remained the same but it was previously hitting a charge card that is excluded from utilization.

Hard to say whether it was going over 40% on one card or whether it was going 5% overall.

Total cards with a balance didn't change since I had a few bucks on the CITI card the prior month, just not a significant amount

Yeah, really have to test on an incredibly small line to test the utilization breakpoints and isolate aggregate: like my 660 -> 646 -> 660 testing which I did on Beacon 5.0, was that 99% max card or was that 13% aggregate, or both? if I get bored next year I might try to play some games with my $500 DCU secured card though really I'd like to have a $200 or smaller card which maybe I'll go do once student loans get sorted.

At 5% though I'm mostly comfortable in suggesting it was likely individual card, it's hard to test for many of us unless you go out of your way as noted above to get a small tradeline and make sure everything else is $0.

It does seem like clean files are more susceptible to indidivual tradeline changes than my own dirty file that I didn't get score movement even at 66% utilization though I'm starting to wonder if that was Beacon 5.0, getting sloppy in my old age.
