Score went up - due to disputes?

My EQ went up 10 points.  This happened on the same day that I disputed 4 old accounts that were showing late.  Is the score increase and disputes related?

Did anything else happen?

I've read that when an item is being disputed it may not count towards your score until the matter is resolved.  Some people have lost points due to disputes, in this case you may have gained points, which could be because you're disputing a baddie so it's not counting against you.

Re: Score went up - due to disputes?

Here's the message I received from Score Watch:

Negative factors no longer hurting your score.

You have 1 negative factor(s) no longer hurting your score as much as before:

  • The time since your most recent past due payment or derogatory indicator is too recent

An increase in your FICO® score happened on the same day as a change on your Equifax Credit Report™ which triggered an alert.

It is possible that the increase was caused by the change in your credit report, but this is not always the case. Your score may have improved because you have been paying back your debts responsibly, which is not always reported as a credit alert. Also, if multiple changes on the credit report happened on the same day, some may have hurt the score while others helped it.

Did you hear back from your disputes?  Ok, I just went back and read your original post.

Ummm, could be that the disputes are causing the lates to not be calculated OR the lates are aging, and as lates age, they count less and your score goes up.
