So I want to make sure I understand what's happening...
You are getting offers in the mail from collectors to settle, right? If so then there are some things to consider before you proceed.
1. How old is the debt. Is it past SOL? Is it past CRTP? If so, they are likely just trying to get you to pay 50% of a bill that they paid $1.00 for. A C&D/FOAD letter may be in order.
2. is this the first correspondence you have gotten from this collector? Does it have the 30-day dispute language on it? If so then DV right away.
3. If the debt is within SOL, then you may consider replying to their settlement offer with a PFD. Say I will accept your settlement offer under the following circumstances: complete removal from reports, settlement constituted settlement in full, and no balances will be resold to new lenders, etc... Search the forum for a suitable letter to use.
Depending on the circumstances, it may be a great way for you to get these removed, as they are willing to negotiate, but do not do anything unless you have it in writing that they will give a ZERO balance and remove. No phone calls to them, only letters CMRRR and no signatures!
