There is a collection on my CR and I would like to pay it. Its been on there since 2007. I thought if I did a PFD letter then I would be ok, but they CA that has the account said they would make it a PIF. It would not be deleted. I heard that if I PIF it would hurt my report. What should I do? The CA is saying that they report every month but it only shows 2007.

I am soooo glad you said never to trust them. Because she was saying that report to the Credit Bureau every month. Which I thought was impossible because nothing has been updated from that CA since 2007. As far as a DV...no I haven't done that. Exactly what is that. I do know the debt is mine. I just don't want anything to negatively affect my credit report because I have an appointment with a Mortgage lender on Monday.
Not many CAs are honest. I've read many a horror story in here.
Ummm, if you are going to meet with your mortgage guy soon, then I'd hold off on the letters pending any determination whether this will hurt your chances or not. DVing and PFDing can lead the CA to update the listing. If that happens, your FICO score will drop. If in the future you ever have to deal with a CA, always DV them first, even if you know it is yours. You want to get in writing from them that they are the ones responsible for collecting and you also would want to get a written balance by which to base future PFDs off of.
