I disputed a credit card account that was charged off in Oct 2004. This item has fallen from TU, and scheduled to fall off EX in Feb. The dispute I made was with equifax. I disputed the item because the "charge-off" status wasn't consistent with TU and EX. I have been skimming the forum about disputing and am very confused. I see that some people say it will actually hurt your score as it updates the account. How can that be when they are not allowed to change the DOFD? Also I read somewhere that they (the original creditor), will actually alert all CB and the account may show updated on EX, TU, and EQ. Can a baddie that was deleted due to the 7 yr aging, show up again if the OC reports new info... This forum has officially freaked me out today, I'm almost at 700 EQ for the first time in my life. My wife and I plan to buy a new truck in June and I'm hoping that I didn't just potentially drop my score!!!!!!!!
Thanks for you input!

No, the fact that the "Status Date" updates doesn't affect the DOFD. The time limit after which the CRA is prohibited from publishing the TL (except for certain large transactions) remains 7 years plus six mons from DOFD. The line cannot legally reappear if it is aged off.

Actually, it is not the account that drops, it is only prior derogs under the account that are barred from frrther CR inclusion.
