With the exception of CAs and PRs, a disputed OC account only removes the financial components during the dispute. So, if you dispute a CC account that may be reporting incorrectly, the CL and the balance are removed from scoring. All other items like the lates, the worst delinquency, etc. all remain within your score during the dispute.

Does this mean that if something is listed as disputed it's not figured into the score?

What about a med collection? Just found out today that if it's listed as disputed my CU won't consider it when making approval decisions (got pre-pre-approved with it), but when it comes to determining rate they go solely by the score. Just wondering if I apply while the dispute is in progress if I could reap a little FICO love for my rate!!![]()

Disputing won't help any unless it is removed (recommend following the HIPAA process). FICO will still read it as a CA. Whether you owe $10,000 or $0, the damage is the same. Plus if verified, your FICO may drop some if the reported date changes. Risky, IMO.
