Re: Some progress!

Bump!

Scores as of 2/10/08: where I started on 1/24/2008 in parentheticals

TU:486 (484)
Experian:526 (489)
Equifax:524 (508)

So the deal is that I received responses to my disputes from Experian and Equifax; four accounts I disputed verified. I sent PFD letters out a couple weeks ago, including to three of the four verifying creditors, so I'm hoping they'll be in the mood to bargain in order to get the records deleted from my reports. I had my close friend contact AMEX, we hold a card jointly through them, to get their reports updated and put onto the TU and Equifax reports, as presently it only shows up on Experian with a single Current payment in October 2007. The GW letter to Chase to see about getting a repo remark removed from my credit files (the car was redeemed after a month and payments have been on time for three years) will go out Monday. I'm not hopeful but I'm hoping. Several collections have fallen off already or will soon come off unless the creditors report their information within the next week.

I think I need to do something proactive about lighting some fire under my credit report. The fact will remain, even if things break favorably for me, that I don't have too many positive marks on my report except for the on-time car payments on a one time repossessed car, and the AMEX account. Is a secured card the best (and probably only) way to go here? If I got my friend to add my name to another one of his credit cards-- which are excellently managed-- would that help?

I'm in a bind. Another significant bad mark will come off in July after I complete a student loan rehab. program, and a new loan through Suntrust issued, but there are several months between now and when I'll be able to have Suntrust reporting regular, timely payments. Thanks in adv. for your advice!
