Someone else's good credit

Several years ago I purchased a new car and signed up for automatic payments to come directly out of my checking account.

About 2-3 months later I noticed an extra payment had been coming out of my account for someone else's loan.  I called and got it taken care of, then forgot all about it.

I have been working on cleaning up my credit reports but really hadn't paid much attention to the satisfactory accounts until tonight.

That loan I was mistakenly paying on for a short time shows up as a satisfactory account on my TU report!  It must be that loan, I can't think of what else it could possbly be.

Wish I could thank whoever it was!Smiley Happy

Wow, if I saw an extra payment coming out of my account I would have freaked! Glad you got it resolved, maybe as a sign of good will, they let you keep the positive history for that account. LOL

Re: Someone else's good credit

it was for a very small auto loan.  only about $2,200 according to the trade line.  the payment was only $95 a month.  i wasn't balancing my checkbook very well in those days so i didn't notice it right away.

i was upset, but it was taken care of, no fuss no muss.

this is one trade line i will not be disputing!Smiley Happy

Re: Someone else's good credit

Is it paid off?

I would be scared of having someone else's info on my reports for fear some of their other one's would show up that were not paid on time. Just a big risk if you ask me.

Re: Someone else's good credit

it's paid off.  it says:

balance $0
high balance $2,280
past due $0
terms $95 for 24 months
pay status paid or paying as agreed
date opened - 3/1997
date closed - 7/1998

looks like it's about to fall off anyway

i had not considered having someone else's info, even if it's good, as being bad.  still not over the weirdness of it.  since it's due to come off this year, should i still go ahead and dispute?

yes, i can imagine it was an old beater!Smiley Happy

ya know, the first car i ever bought had a $107 payment.of course this was a used car and way back in 91

Re: Someone else's good credit

Could've just been used as collateral. I did that when I pulled my head out of the sand. I own my vehicle free & clear, so I got a small loan from my CU and I wanted a good rate, so I pledged my vehicle. It's killing me to pay on it for a year, but it is what it is...I need to do it for the credit mix and score.

Does it report as an auto loan just because you used an auto for collateral?  Is that how it works?

Re: Someone else's good credit

Just cause the loan is 2200 doesnt mean it was a beater. Imagien if the person put 14k down on a 16k car, after tax, fees, and registration they wanted to finance the rest.
