State Tax Lein

I have a GA state tax lein that was paid in 2004. It says on my credit report that it was pain and released. Does that mean that I can have it removed if it says released? Who would I contact to do that? Thanks for all your help!

No, it stays  But, paid and released is better than still showing a balance!!  I believe tax leins are to be removed after 7 years.  Not sure though if it is 7 years from the reporting date or paid date?  Others can correct me!

I too have a state lien (less than $200 in taxes)... it reprots for 7 years from date paid.  I want to get mine off so I am GWing the COmproller's Office - don't know if it will work but I'm gonna try... in fact I had dreams about the content of the letter Saturday night ---now I DREAM about credit - isn't that sad.....

Maybe I will send a GW letter also to the recorder of deeds. Do you think that since it has been paid for almost 4 years, if I got it removed would it make a difference in my score?

Yes, you will see an increase!  Any neg. being deleted should raise scores!!

My other question on this is....on the paper that the court sent to me after this tax lein was paid off  is stamped saying "paid, satisfie and ordered cancelled from record" Does that mean that I can have it removed from my report? It also has another stamp that says "satisfied and cancelled on the record on this 31st day of May 2005 and it is signed b the deputy clerk of Gwinnett County Superior Court. I just didn't know what any of that means and am hoping that I can send copies of this to get it removed from my reports. Thanks everyone for all the great advice you give on here!

I have a Cali State Tax Lien, and I just GW'd the LA County Recorder's Office. Although I also stated that they have been reporting the information as incorrect for the past two years and have violated my civil rights under the FCRA, because the amount listed that I owe is incorrect (they say $1173, whereas I know the back taxes were for only $483, and I have proof of that).

I'm waiting to see what happens. The LA County Recorder abdicated her post recently, so I don't know who is going to read my letter and make a judgment call.

Liens are hard to get off, but I don't think it's impossible. Nothing is.
