Strange Identity Verification Question?

When I was approved online for a Macy's store card I had to call the Customer Service # to verify my identity before I could use it to pay for my purchase. No big deal, actually kind of reassuring. But anyways, one of the questions she asked me was "What color was the Suzuki you were responsible for?" I was a co-signer for my mother on this car 16 years ago, it's definitely not on any credit report I have pulled in the last 10+ years so... Where would this info be available to Macy's??

Re: Strange Identity Verification Question?

It's a known fact that creditors will often use info outside the 3 CRAs. Some use verifying info via LexisNexus. I'm guessing that could be their source?

I knew there were other databases/sources used I just didn't realize the length of history available was so long

Re: Strange Identity Verification Question?

I was asked today the "exact" date I opened a certain checking account.....I was like is this a serious question and if so is there another option?

She also asked if knew any of the 5 names she listed (I hadn't), just weird to me but I was approved Smiley Happy
