Student Loan shows up after reporting SOL

What is the best approach to resolve this without causing more problems?  In 1999 a repayment plan was made for my US DOE loans and several months ago the loans were paid in full.  During this time the loans fell off my CR because of reporting SOL and also during this repayment time NO info was ever reported until yesterday.  My TU CR started reporting a derogatory from this loan as “payment after charge off/collection, paid collection”.

So basically what has happened is

1. Loans fell off CR during my repayment plan because of reporting SOL 
2. No repayment info reported for 8 years 
3. Derogatory info placed after loan payoff which I believe is too old to report

Now what do I do? Thanks.

Hmmm, I'm not sure which law would help you out in this aspect.  I'd suggest you post this at the general credit section as they would probably know the best way to approach getting it removed from the CR's, or if it couldn't because of the payment plan was just completed (so there'd be a date of last activity within the last 8 years).

I would call them-

They can not report negative information after 7 years-

If they do not work with you dispute it.
