Tax Lien

I have a tax lien that was filed in 2001 that is not reporting as released on TU.  It was paid and released this year.  Do I need to dispute it in order for it to report released or will it fall off on its own?

Thanks for any advice that you all can provide.

Re: Tax Lien

I don't think it'll fall off until 7 years after you've paid the Lien, not 7 years since it was filed.

Re: Tax Lien

If it's a federal tax lien, then it will drop off 7 years from the date of payment, not the filing date.

State tax lien -- may be different timing.

So I need to dispute it in order for it to report paid/released?

Re: Tax Lien

Yes, you will need to dispute it. Send a copy of the paperwork you have, they will update it. same thing happened to me. It will show paid/released, but its there for a long time! Dont worry though, I dont think paid hurts you too bad.

Re: Tax Lien

Keep in mind that the CRAs get their info. from 3rd party reporting. I disputed a public & came back verified. I disputed again & after 3 days came back verified.  I have now sent a MOV...the info reported is really not correct!

So if it comes back verified, send a MOV!  don't wait.
