Thoroughly confused on AMEX

Hello all,

Been a while since I posted...

I have Experian sending updates to my score, and I noted that my score went up to 664 on 3/12.  I decided to give it a shot to sign up for an AMEX, since I was going to a new consulting job and it requires I pay up front, then get reimbursed.  Suffice it to say, I was denied because of my score.  Though there are other items that did influence my score, and I realized that.

This is where it gets annoying...

In the letter from AMEX, it stated that the FICO score obtained from Experian was 611(????).  So, I had to ask where a 51 point spread came from??  I called AMEX and all the (offshore) guy could tell me was that was the score from Experian.  I contacted Experian and asked them to explain how AMEX had one score and the Experian site had another.  The rep said that the scoring metrics between AMEX and Experian are different.  What???  It is very misleading.

Then I come to find out that my score dropped 27 points from 3/18 to 3/26...Would it have done that just from a hard inquiry?

Suffice it to say, I am annoyed.  I get where I have to fix my credit scores, but with I see such a big discrepancy, it worries me...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

--Ed

Re: Thoroughly confused on AMEX

you may want to look into the defference between FAKO and FICO scores, the score AMEX pulled was a FICO but the score you were looking at from your updates may of been a FAKO

Re: Thoroughly confused on AMEX

I know this is going to sound wierd but the score you bought from Experian is worthless.  It's a FAKO that has no real world meaning.  Experian feels that the consumer should not be allowed to have access to the score that is used to base credit decisions and interest rates, you simply cannot get your Experian FICO.  The only way I know of is to be a member of the PSECU credit union.(well or be denied credit or given less than the best available terms)  Amex gave you your true Experian FICO score.
