Tradeline dispute with a Collection Agency

I had a car repo last year.  On my credit report, It states a charge off of $2680,  recent payment  of 7250. I called the collection agency to negoiate a settlement. They called me back the next day and said, you actually owe $10,100.00 not the $2680.00 I said my credit report has something different. so they sent me a bill  the mail for $10,100.00 I replied and said to DV it from the original creditor(which is out of business)    I also disputed this with all the Credit bureaus,  that was on the 15th of April. I haven't heard anything from  the CA since.  I checked my credit report and this tradeline still reads $2680.00  any comments would e greatly appreciated.

I don't see how you owe 10k+. What kind of car? What did you owe before the repo? Any idea what they sold it for?  Don;t do anything else until you get the results of your dispute.

Re: Tradeline dispute with a Collection Agency

Thanks Tuscani for getting back quickly. I  know I owe a balance but was never informed on how much. after they rep'ed the vehicle last year  I never heard from them again until I called  to inquire about  a settlement. I have no idea what they sold the vehicle for and FYI: this CA has numerous complaints against them at the BBB. if they do not respond on time do the big 3 delete it or do i have to write them to delete it.  I am trying to buy a house that's why I am pusuing this so hard.

Assuming the dispute does not work, do you have the cash to settle with them via a PFD? You may even be able to settle for far less than what you owe.
