Trident Sold My Account to True Accord?

So my Equifax report just went up 87 points.  I noticed that 4 accounts that had been sent to collections were not showing in the collections section on my Equifax report.  It's now showing up in the closed accounts section and not showing it as late. I just got an email from True Accord saying I owe for these accounts now.  They haven't reported to my credit report tho, but regardless, they would fall off in 7 months anyway.

My question is if Trident sold the account to True Accord, can they still report the accounts to Equifax still?  I tried to dispute again with Equifax today, but it says I can't because I have disputed already (more than once).

They can if True Accord is only collecting on their behalf and Trident didn't actually sell the debt.

Re: Trident Sold My Account to True Accord?

Even if the debt was sold, the former holder has a time allotment to remove themselves from your reports. The stipulation is "reasonable and expeditious" or something to that effect. I believe the understanding is 5-7 days or so but don't quote me on that. They don't have to pull it immediately upon selling - there is a timeframe spelled out by the law.

You mentioned that your score shot up from this. If the new owner of the debt reports it, expect it to crash again (possibly farther down than they were if the debts were older and not updating regularly). If you plan to wait out the seven months then you'll gain your points back again once the accounts become time-barred and fall off for good. If you plan to pay the debts, now would be the time to reach out for a pay-for-not-reporting deal with the new owner, to preserve your scores and put the matter to rest once and for all.
