Trying to fix a Split File...and getting really confused

I have been keeping up with my EQ score through myfico, and everything seems to be in order.  BUT...I bought a copy of my credit report from EQ anyway.  My EQ report was missing several items.  I am divorced and changed my name a few months ago, but I didn't think that would cause a problem.  After this, I bought my TU and EX reports (and I bought them directly from those companies)--turns out ALL three credit bureaus are missing items from my reports. As far as TU is concerned, I have NO credit at all.  I have no score, nor do I even have a report.  Now, most of the items that are missing are negative and are due too drop off within the year, and at first, I thought they had just come off early.  But my score from myfico is still really low, and all of those items showed up here when I got my Score Power report.  Not only that, but the positive items are on BOTH files.

So I did some research on what to do.  I called EQ and told the person that I believed I have 2 files that needed to be merged.  I explained the whole name change thing.  She checked, and yes, my SS did show 2 files under 2 different names. She then asked me which name is now my legal name, and I told her.  She then deleted the other file by my previous name. She didn't merge them; she just deleted the other file.  I asked her repeatedly if that was all that needed to be done, and she assured me that it was, but something about that just seems off to me.  It would be great for me because the negative is gone.

My next call was to EX.  The man I spoke with assured me that the report I bought was the only EX report I had and it even showed my previous name.  He said that the items most likely just aged off, but that makes no sense.  All of them couldn't have come off. I even have a public record that was supposed to be there until 2015...and it's gone.  He told me that he couldn't explain that, but I only had one file.  I couldn't call TU because they are closed today.

Now, my other issue is that, if these people are right (which I am having serious problems believing), then the score I am getting at myfico is probably wrong, too.  In fact, as of today, the information from myfico is based on a credit file that has been deleted.

So I am REALLY confused...and a little worried.  The guy from EX assured me that this couldn't come back to bite me because, if there are mistakes on my report, I didn't make  them.  But I'm still worried.  Any thoughts?

Re: Trying to fix a Split File...and getting really confused

Wow, thanks for the heads up.  If my wife ever divorces me, I will make sure to let her know the potential pitfalls of changing her name back to her maiden name.  My wife did not receive her first credit card until after we were married and she had already changed her last name.  So this could easily happen to her as well if we ever divorce.

I wish 7 years ago when I received 8 baddies all in the same month including a vehicle being repossessed, someone could have just deleted my whole file.  But now, it would be devastating. So good luck to you.

I am interested to know if there is an "undo button" or if they have to re-enter your whole credit history again manually.

Re: Trying to fix a Split File...and getting really confused

Most of the positives on my report (both reports) are things from before I was married.  It's like most of the things from the time I had my married name just disappeared.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if she deleted it or deactivated it.  I don't think credit reports ever really go away.  In fact, I'm pretty sure this is all just some mistake, and I'm going to check it again in a month and those accounts will be back.  I'm honestly more worried that having them gone now will set me back even more. The baddies were due to fall off in a few months, and I was slowly but surely making strides in bringing up my score.  Even though the "new report" only shows positive, there are not accounts within the last 6 years or so.  I'm not really sure that's helping.  I mean, I sold my house last year, and TU doesn't even show that I ever had a mortgage!
