Utility dropped my score 98 points!

I have a utility bill that was just added to my CR as 120+ days late.  It is not in collection.  I called the company and asked for a PFD, and they acted like I had 3 heads!  If this isn't in collections, is it possible to get a PFD, or do I do as they suggested, pay off the bill then let it get reported back as paid? Or let it go to collections so it may be removed? This dropped my score 98 points!!!  Thank you in advance!

Re: Utility dropped my score 98 points!

Hi, You should call the utility company and ask for the collections department. After you are connected to that department, you would then ask for a collections supervisor or senior account manager.Don't waste time with a customer service rep.-they don't you have the power or authority to make decisions such as this. State to him or her that you are willing to pay in full, in exchange for complete removal from your credit files. If they agree, ask them to fax or mail you a letter stating those terms in writing. Make sure to obtain the exact account number and department to send payment if you don't already have it. This is what I did last week. I had a letter faxed to me immediately, in which I was given a month to make full payment. Of course, I will be sending this payment out tomorrow. This may or may not work, it all depends on the luck of the draw ; but you should definitely attempt to have it removed. I have found that it easier to remove utilities and medical bills than any other debt. Hope it works out....
