I have been going back and forth with National Grid (electric utility in ma) since January of this year regarding a final bill. I moved out of the address but it seems like they never got my cancel notice? Anyway, I sent multiple documents over the past few months followed by several phone calls with no luck to get the issue solved. They sent me to collections, this is my only account in collections.
I called several times and they said they'd put a hold on my account until the dispute was solved. I also disputed with transunion when I first saw it, the dispute is still in progress. I looked today and the collection is no longer on my report.
is this because I have the dispute with transunion or because national grid put the collections on hold? I am so tired of dealing with this I just want to pay it off and not have to deal with this ever again. Is this a good idea? I just don't want to pay it in full and see the debt as paid as opposed to deleted. I spoke to national grid multiple times and they said that would be the case, but I am so confused since it is no longer on my report.
PLEASE HELP!!

If it's disappeared from your report, I would take that as a good thing.
Not all the time. But it does happen. An entry will be pulled during an investigation. Once verified it will show up again. If you live near the util company. Walk in if it shows back up. Pay it and ask to have them recall the debt from the CA. Hopefully its toast.
Thank you!! unfortunately, there is no way for me to just walk in, everything needs to be done over the phone. Since the account is on hold, do you think I'd be a bad idea to pay it in full now? Because if the account is in hold they will need to report back to the CA at one point, if the account is paid in full I am hoping that they would not have anything to report? I have no idea what I am doing.

I thought so too! But I do feel like it's only a temporary measure. Idk if I should just pay it now or wait.
What kind of utility doesnt have a office locally and everything is by phone. Im big city. I had to show all kinds of stuff just to get the water on when I got my home from city hall.
Yeah! I have looked into it, if I go in person, it will be a waste of time, they are a pretty big company, they serve 3 states. Everything is normally done by phone/mail, it's terrible.
Ouch. It can go either way. But since you say it isnt on your reports in your title. Lets keep it off and go ahead and make the payment. Look at it as your paying not to have a baddie for 7 yrs on your report.
Got it! If I go on the transunion website it says they can't show anything on my report because they're working on the dispute, but if I check it here or on experian it says that there are no open collections. I am sooo confused.
