Utilization Help

My total utilization is @ 79%.   I am working on paying down these debts (balance/limit):

Express  690/1110
Macys     334/500
Amx        1572/2100
Chase     1067/1600
Amx        862/1000
Cap1       843/600   (this balance is now $500 but Cap1 hasn't updated yet)
HSBC     394/400
Citi          385/500

My current Ficos are:
TU: 670
EQ: 647
EX: 645

EQ/EX both have an old collection account on them that I just paid off this week.   It is not reflected yet but it is 5 years old so I'm not expecting any change from that.

My goal is to get my score up fast.  Aside from basically just paying down as much as I can as fast as I can does anyone else have any good tips?

Thanks!

Re: Utilization Help

Hi givingup, I hope that you aren't giving up. You have nailed it. Get your utilization down as quickly as humanly possible. Overall and individual util under 10% for best results. Coupled with lowering uti, do not allow more than half of all open accounts (including mort, SL, installment of any type) to report a balance.

Let's say you have a mortgage and a car loan on top of the eight cards. You have 10 open accounts. No more than four should report a balance. Because your mortgage and car loan will report a balance, you should not allow more than two of the CCs to report a small (1-9%) balance. The others should PIF. This isn't to say that you can't use the cards, just strategize how you will use them and pay them to $0 balance BEFORE the statement cuts. One of the things that I am sure you are getting hit on is too many accounts with balances.
