Can anyone give me a logical reason why credit card companies limit us to $75 for gas purchases?
In the meantime we can make a 2K charge over the phone or the internet but by golly, you can only have 75 bucks for gas. Silly, not to mention inconvenient, when it takes $100 to $125 to fill up my truck.
Maybe a limitation as to rewards? What card do you have?
The limit is there for a reason of theft and to protect the consumer from over the limit and overdraft fees.

All credit cards, I believe, have a limit. Some only $50.
Rewards have nothing to do with it. I've used both rewards and non rewards cards, Amex, Visa and MC. They all have a limit.

OK. Still doesn't make sense.

Ford F-250. 40 gals x $3.05= $122.00
wow! well, that makes more sense now. gas here is only $2.50 or so.
It is the gas companies and/or the credit card clearing companies that are imposing the limit. I think you will find it varies by the gas station company. I can recall hitting the limit filling up two motorcycles.
One of my associated companies dispenses fuel and we use no limit. Normal fill up is $400 on trucks..We do know who they are before they pull onto the property.
I have put $880 on a single charge of fuel at a marina without issue. Last time I borrow that boat! Expensive "free" week.

But why? I was under the impression they are in business to sell gas.![]()
In the past when I went to fuel up I would go to a second station with another credit card to top off my tank. Today when my PenFed Gas Rewards Visa cut me off at $75 I ran it through a second time and it worked (I was hesitant to do this in the past). I just don't see any rhyme or reason.
I don't mean to be a pest, I would just like to know what the real reason(s) (one that makes some sort of sense) are for imposing limits.
