What do I do?

I had sent Certified mail with receipt to a lawyers office paying what i owe, as it was a judgement against me back on June 19. I have not gottent he green card back yet..i don't know what to do. Should I follow up w/ the lawyers office? I checked the USPS tracking..but it only shows when I sent it out. Nothing else...Or should I call my bank to see if the certified check was cashed?
Any suggestions please??

I don't have any experience to speak from, but I would definitely call the USPS and ask them what happened to the letter. They should be able to give you some information.

Re: What do I do?

Calm down! Nothing's worth that much stress (though I'll bet it FEELS like it!)!!

You have several recourses ... for one, if it's a Cashier's check, you can have it traced if you think it might be cashed by fraudulent means.

Second, if the zip's wrong, it's a durn good chance that it'll come back to you undeliverable. Even if it doesn't, more often than not, the person who picks up the letter has to provide proof that THEY are the addressee beyond just proof of address (at least, that's how our PO operates).

And third, chances are good that the unintended recipient will see that it's a certified letter and run for the hills, thinking it's a CA contacting THEM!!!

In any case, please don't stress out too badly over it. There's always a solution to EVERY problem!!

Re: What do I do?

Forgot to add: More often than not, the USPS knows that we frail human beings make boo-boos on ZIPs ... they'll deliver it to the ADDRESS, wrong ZIP or not.

Chances are, the reason it's not been delivered yet is because the ZIP's wrong, it has to be hand-sorted ... that DOES take much longer (BTDT).

Re: What do I do?

Don't panic.  You will either get the letter back or it will just take longer to deliver it due to the incorrect zip code.  My sister sent me a letter with a check, had the wrong zip code and it took almost 3 weeks to get it here.  Ended up going all the way to Montana first.

Re: What do I do?

Just an update,
I contacted the Post office the letter/check went to, they do not have it nor did they scan it when they sent it to the correct zip. NOR did the guy delivering it to the correct address scan it, but the attorney's office DID cash the check.
Now I dont' have any paper trail except that the check was cashed.
Going today to get my $5.62 back for CMRR

The cashed check with their signature is all you need to prove payment.
