I read somewhere that if an account is showing as disputed on your Credit reports, that potential creditors do not see this account. Is that true?

No, that's not true. That account will, however, be marked as disputed, and (in most cases) that means it will be taken out of the FICO scoring algorithm until the dispute is resolved. Your report will still show the account.
