Sorry provately funded hospitals are not required to render aid without the ability to pay only publicly funded ones.

The federal laws clearly state that anyone with a bona fide emergency must be treated and stabilized with no insurance or money asked regardless if the hospital is public or private, and any facility that violates this law can be fined 75K per incident and physicians 15K per incident. This, however, does not apply to non-emergencies.

And usually that emergency stance is determined by triage people not qualified to make that determination as demonstrated by the woman who complained of severe stomach pains in the lobby of the emergency room and was told by triage staff that it was not an emergency and she would just have to wait only to bleed out on the floor while staff walked by and her family frantically called for other emergency services.\

A MedFico probably would have sent her home to die.  But what diff?  She's dead right?

Do we really want our government to run our entire healthcare system? As far as I'm concerned, medicare, medicaid and just about every other indigent medical program has been a failure. Democrats pushing for UH have no idea what they're proposing...don't you think it's odd too that not once did any of these politicians say "we need input from the healthcare providers and hospitals." What are they thinkning? Who is doing all of the work? No input from the those who are the fire. lol

Re: What do you all think of a law to prevent Med Collections from showing for 1 year.

You are talking about the US healthcaresystem which we all agree could use a major overall.  The thing is not to keep doing what obviously doesn't work.  But there are some great examples of universal healthcare out there that does work. Look at Canada.  The US government is too worried about lining the pocets of the pharmaceutical companies to enact any such thing.  Even just to reign in the cost of medicine.  Even gettng the right medicine from across the Canadian border for an affordable price is too much to ask.  Now lets not go Dem/Rep cause I can think of a few billion dollars spent in the current administration that definitely could have been put to better use.

I want to clarify that I agree with the idea of medical collections not counting, as the OP suggested. I do not think that care should be decided based on credit scores at all.

Japan, yes it works and Canada to a lesser extent. Like I said in my original post, I'm in the minority but I'm certainly not clueless. It would not surprise me if our healthcare system crumbles. I think healthcare should revert back to fee-for-service. Those who can not afford this will have access to public hospitals and clinics.

I disagree with the idea that is proposed by the OP. It will drive up the cost of healthcare....
Therefore forcing ME to pay more.

Re: What do you all think of a law to prevent Med Collections from showing for 1 year.

It was not intended to give people a complete out, just more time to repair and pay back or make other arrangements. I don't think it is totally fair for the people that need it the most. I realize many would abuse this to get extra time to pay med debts but they will still need to pay it. I felt that 12 months was appropriate before creditors could destroy someones credit after a hospital stay for an extensive injury. Yes people are responsible for debt, but they do need more time to work out the payment problems with insurance companies that have not paid. My doctors give me 60 days for insurance to cover med bills. Then they expect me to pay and ask for reimbursement from insurance. I expect this and should, but if I were unexpectedly in the hospital and out of work or lost my job over it, I would hope they would give me more time to figure out where to come up with $$$ money. I would be devastated if hey destroyed my credit after 60 days for the next 7 years because I was unable to work and my insurance delayed paying the bills. I just wanted to give people a chance. Just short term protection not a way out.

IMO  med reports should never be part of CR!!!  Also neither should utilities!
