When does an item actually disappear?

Does anyone know when an item is removed from your credit report?  I have a collection (from Verizon in 1999) that magically appear on my credit report in November 2007 and when I disputed it via the credit report agencies, it was verified.  I'm going to live with it because the credit report says it is suppose to be removed from my credit report "December 2007".  Does that mean December 1 it will automatically come off or do I need to wait until January 1 for it to be completely removed?  Or do I have to notify the CRAs?

Re: When does an item actually disappear?

Sometime in December it will disappear automatically.

It will be gone before Jan 1.

On Dec 1 dispute as too old or irrelevant.

Re: When does an item actually disappear?

I have a questions for you lovely people. I think I read on this site before that if you (consumer) dispute a collection agency and it gets deleted from Experian, TransUnion or Equifax, can the collection agency re-enter it even if they have the proper documentation?

That is not the case, but I disputed a collection agency with a balance only on Experian and it fell off. To my knowledge, the debt is not mine.

But for some scary reason, I think that debt had something to do with a charge-off account with Pacific Bell in 2000 which is now paid in full.

I don't know I'm confused, however if the collection agency made the mistake and did not respond, I will not call them and remind them to re-enter.

If it is from 2000, then the SOL should be past and it shouldn't be showing up on your CR anyway.  As for oweing the debt not sure, but if it is off your credit report do you really care?  I had one CA tell me I'm forever obligated to pay the debt.

Well, I don't care. My question was, can the collection agency re-enter the negative trade with the credit bureaus?

Re: When does an item actually disappear?

Recently, as I was in the process of buying a home, I found that there was an item entered on my credit report without my knowledge. The item was an erroneous. I was told that inspite of the error the item could not be removed. What do I need to do?

I have some other items that have not dissappeared after many years of disputing them.

So many questions?

fix,

read the newbie links - they're full of good information.

I think what you're looking for is a MOV (method of validation) letter to send to the CRAs.  If they cannot validate the entry they must remove it.  If they can validate, they must provide you the information on how they validated it.

Re: When does an item actually disappear?

The CA isn't suppose to change the date although sometimes they do. Keep copies of your CR that shows the correct date and if it reappears then dispute it directly to the CA with the older CR showing the correct date.
