I applied for the Orchard one and all I qualified for was the prepaid card.  I don't know what it is about my credit. Even with my score being in the 600's on EX, I can't get a card.

Take the Orchard card, keep util between 1 and 9 percent, periodically add a $100 to the attached savings account.

Re: Where to Begin??

My advice is to get three secured cards. Take the hit on inqs and new accounts now, while your score is mediocre anyway. These are short-term hits, whereas the benefits of having more positive TLs are lasting and only grow with time.

Re: Where to Begin??

Well I managed to get an instant approval for an unsecured card for $300.  It's not the best, but I'll take it for now so that I can have some sort of positive tl.  I will probably get the secured cards too.

Great start!!
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Cap 1, Patelco, Crown Jewelers show up more than once very near your scores.
