Awesome, I have a Discover Card opened in 1989 as well. ![]()
The card was originally a platinum card which Discover replaced with the Discover More card. When solicited to convert to a Discover IT, I kept the More variant because I could ![]()
Were Discover cards first offered through Sears? I know the card came about in 1985 and was affiliated with Sears.
Sears bought Dean Witter in 1985 and also acquired Greenwood Trust Bank around then. Greenwood issued the Discover card.
The first Discover cards had the Sears Tower on them.

Yes, Sears was involved with the creation of this card. It was introduced to the public in 1986 in a super bowl commercial. It was the 1st (or one of the 1st) revolving credit cards to be offered with no annual fee. AT&T adopted the no AF policy when they introduced their Universal Mastercard in 1989. I was an early adopter of both these cards primarily due to the no AF.
Yeah, I would like to know what EQ score they provide when you donlt have any pre-approvals. Mine came up as 787 a few weeks ago. Think that may be a little high if it's FICO 8. Don't know.
To everyone wondering the same thing a member named CreditCuriousity Confirmed that its indeed FICO 8
So yay to all those who have a new discover account or can't pre-qualify for discover (Free EQ FICO 8 score) which pretty much no one offers for free even if you own a specific credit card
It makes sense that this score is FICO 8 because the range is 300 to 850 so its not bankcard and also discover is known for soft pulling your report and offering a quick summary with FICO 8 score (Discover account does that with TU) and (Creditscorecard does it with EX) so I don't think their prequalify will be any different. They check a summary of your EQ and offer a FICO 8 score and then when you apply they HP your EQ but this time you might get the bankcard with your approval or denial package
cheers
