Why is it so hard to garden?

Last fall I decided it was time to get my credit in order. Due primarily to all the information gleaned from these forums, over the next 8 months I improved my FICO scores from the 560 range to around 700 across all three bureaus. I was approved for a mortgage and moved into my new house. I was approved for a number of quality credit products to include my NFCU Flagship with a $25,000 starting limit, an Amex Gold, and several other products. Now, it's prime gardening time. But why is that so hard? I've been eyeballing the Cap One Savor Card. I'm not sure exactly why, though I would make it my dining and entertainment card if I had it. I guess, though, that it's that I've been with Cap One for a while. I had some late pays in the past and they stuck by me. I have a good relationship with them now. 18 plus months without any lates, a QS1 card that's upgraded from Platinum, and a Venture One Card upgraded from QS1 with, now, a $3400 limit. It just feels like getting the Savor Card would say I'm in Cap One's preferred kids club. I cannot even come close to justifying why that would matter. Just a feeling I guess. And I know I should garden, but I keep feeling to pull to app for that card.

Ahh, so far, I've stayed in the garden. Just would love to hear other's thoughts on how to garden with happiness.

You're in the land of temptation, that's why. This forum is like putting a fat kid on a diet while simultaneously surrounding him with cakes and ice creams.

It takes a lot of willpower to stay the course. The first 3 months were the hardest for me. Once I got to 6 months, I could have gone to a year if I needed to but I decided to jump on the AOD card and then hit the garden again.

Having a goal helps a lot. Me knowing that I want the Cash+ and that US Bank has declined me twice for too much credit seeking makes it easy for me to make it my goal to be 0/6 and 1/12 before I try one last time for that card. Next goal is to get under 5/24 so I can get the Chase Amazon VS which means I can get one more card between the Cash+ and October of next year so I'll be right back to gardening unless a unicorn comes along.

🤣🤣🤣 I put myself in the garden then 2 days later I applied for 2 credit cards. In my defense I only had one card so I needed some variety, just chose the wrong time to put myself in the garden. But I'm going to garden for at least 6 months because I want one more card. We must resist we must resist 😂

The cards in my signature are all in chronological order. When I got my BBVA ClearPoints, I entered the garden. Clearly that didn't work out because I ended up hitting 20/24 which got me the garden recycle bin. 😅

It is what it is. All of us gardeners were bad at it at one point, that's why we have the garden thread 😂

@Anonymous hey how are the discover miles and venture one working out with you? I want to add the chase sapphire to my rotation (but later on), but there is a part of me that also wants cap one venture.

To be perfectly honest, I only did a PC to V1 because I was trying to get out of my custom card image. I have no plans to keep it since I don't travel, I'll PC it back to QS as soon as Cap lets me.

Miles I got for 3% for the first year but it's been given the SD status since I got the AOD card. When I get my match in October, if Disco finally offers me a CLI on my regular IT, I'm going to merge them.

Not really a fan of Cap1's lineup, and especially not fond of getting triple-hit for an app. Used them for thin/no-file approval. Unless they come out with a new card or change a reward scheme I won't submit

As far as gardening try making a plan for the cards you want, like wait 6mo then apply for [one card], then get [so-n-so card] 6mo after that. If you feel the itch just look at your plan and say shucks its too soon I can't apply yet lol

Working on growing current cards/limits can help ease the itch. Nothing like a CLI

Re: Why is it so hard to garden?

Cool thanks. Funny enough I finally got the upgrade because I was bored so I checked 🤪. But I did get the QS. I travel a lot, so no AF , 0% on foreign transactions are things I need. Someone just mentioned they are glad to get rid of the ventureone. I was attracted to disco's 0% apr for 14 months and they gave me a really good apr afterwards. As for cap one, instead of applying for new ones, I'll just keep looking for upgrades.
