Will disputes lower your score

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum, but have been lurking for a while.  You all offer GREAT advice.

I am wondering, since I just pulled my Fico scores and they were sooooo different from the FAKO? scores on creditreport.com.

Since I have disputed some items on my report with the credit bureaus, does this lower my score?

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Will disputes lower your score

FICO scores have NO relation to FAKO scores. Your FAKOs can go up and FICOs down for the same event. Ignore every score except for the FICO score.

Disputing can cause your score to go up or down. Depends on what is being disputed and the outcome of the dispute.

Re: Will disputes lower your score

Theoretically they can.

I have just recently started disputing items on my report.

My first round of results are in:

Here is my scenario.

I have had many inquiries deleted, as well as a couple of collection accounts.

I have had multiple collection accounts verify and update the "Date Reported" value to 04/2009 from older dates like 04/2004.

I have also been paying down credit card balances.

As far as I can tell, my overall score is increasing even though the "Date Reported" is being updated on some accounts.

I haven't quite determined yet whether or not the "Date Reported" value is having a significant impact on my score.

All of my alerts list them as recent negative activity, which is a true statement by definition, but the bottom line is, they impact my score just by being there anyhow.

My EQ Fico is up 36 points from when I started in March, but that could be from lowering utilization alone.

Best Wishes

Re: Will disputes lower your score

Certain aspects of a TL is excluded when the TL is in dispute. This can cause your score to change while they dispute is in progress.

TL= tradeline, as in a regular TL reported by the OC, not a collection account.
