Will paying CA stop a Tradeline?

I have a letter from a Collection Agency with an offer to settle an old credit card debt.

I checked my credit report using TrueCredit and I do not see this debt on there yet.

Will paying the CA prevent this collections debt from showing up on my credit report in the future?

I am from Texas

I believe this is a old store card that I opened in December 2004.

I am not sure when it got turned over to a CA.

there is a lot of info at the top of this board.check out credit scoring 101, As to your last question.paying the ca does NOT keep them from reporting to the CRA. IMO i would DV the CA, then i would try for a PFD.Wait and see what the other say.I would do alot of reading first. good luck.

To be on the safe side, if you can PIF, I'd send the CA a letter stating that you'd pay in full right away if they agree not to report this debt on your CR. Ask them for a signed letter stating this.

A modified version of the PFD......cept you are paying for not reporting.

Sample PFD can be found at the top of the page under "Freq Requested Threads"

Tweak it to work for you.

I think I will send a letter like you suggest sidewinder.

It looks like this CA obtained the debt from another CA. Do the CA companies just keep selling the account to each other until one of them decides to file it on your CR?

If I PIF and get a letter from the current CA stating they will not report the debt can the other CA or the original account holder still file this on my CR?
