I "wrote" one letter for just one CA (woohoo! using acronyms!) just to test the program out and now it won't let me back in to correct some of the other errors in my report. What gives? Is this an appropriate forum to ask about the products that are sold on the site?
Tx
What are you trying to get into? The Orman kit or the CRB?
If you are trying to access again to your profile in the kit - look up in the top banner aroud the left hand side and it will allow you to log into your account, then go to products and it should show you that you have purchased the kit and allow you to click on it to open.
If you are talking about an electroic dispute that you wish to update to a CRB - that's a horse of a diffent color, there are some quriks with some of the CRB that only allow you to have 1 dispute open at a time - someone else who has more expereince should be along shortly to offer some other specifics about this, since I've never personally used the online dispute.
Hope this helps at least a little. Good Luck
Under the section that allows you to look at each CR I was able to click on the actual company (TU) and then check off items that I wanted to dispute. Having done that, I chose one item just to sample what the outcome was. There are many things that I would like to correct...beginning with my name, address and employment. (The CR companies dictate so much of our money life I would've thought they had the basics correct! I've been married for 6 years!!!) Anyway, now I can't get back into that CR to take real action... Does anyone know if it's a one shot deal? Or am I missing the button that will take me back into the CR to view the information and generate a letter if needed?
Just to make sure I understand -- when you log in you are selecting option 2 for find and dispute errors, when you get to that screen it shows you each CRB with an option "TU - Edit letter" "EQ - Check for errors" & "EX - Online dispute" But when you attempt to access these links it's not letting you? Or are you getting in but it will not allow you to acually submit the dispute?
You have the scenario. The thing is I don't want to edit the letter I wrote, I want to get back to the section that lists my credit history and gives me the option to correct or dispute the information....
The page I'm looking for shows a list of my debtors (Macys) and when you click on details it gives you the payment history--listing 30 days late etc...
This section allows you to checkmark the creditors in order to generate a dispute letter.
It is this page that I can't find a way back into, now that the TU button allows me to edit just the one dummy letter I wrote.
Thanks for your help!
Got ya. I'm not sure about that issue in her kit, however you can copy her format and send the disputes directly. I even believe all the CRBs will let you file the dispute online at their site. (could be wrong about one of them.)
Just curious - what do you mean "dummy letter?" Did you send a dispute from her Kit or not? If you didn't actually send it then you would just update it and then send it. If it's sent you may have to wait until the dispute is closed before filing a 2nd dispute.
I didn't send the letter. I am not fully armed yet with all the info I need (laws governing SOLs, not to mention just trying to remember what the heck an SOL is without referring to my handy acronym list!) I was just trying to figure out what the program would do, what steps were next... So I didn't accurately respond to the prompts. I clicked on just one of my creditors, made something up, and hit create or whatever to see what would come next. I put the cart first and let my curiousity get the best of me.
Now, armed with a little more info thanks to this forum (statutes for my state, a dictionary etc) I want to get back into the TU list in order to print it out and continue my homework. Like trying to remember if I ever had a Macys credit card. (No. So what gives?) But I can't get back to that list, the one that gives you the option of disputing errors. I'm not ready to dispute them, I just need the master list that shows when I made payments and for how long and when I defaulted the first time and how much I actually owe. When I go directly to the CRs (step one I think) it doesn't give me all that info, just tells me who I owe and what. Even when I hit details...
When I get the master list I can start the process of trying to figure out why Capital One is still reporting monthly when I closed the account 5 years ago and what to do about it. Not to mention 7 year old medical bills that are listed in 2004. But that's all more info than you asked for. I feel as tho I should have been more clear from the start. Sorry. And thanks again.
ghentgirl, STOP what you are doing. You are on the fast track to harming your credit.
First things first, talking about disputing accurate info violates our Credit Repair Discussion Guidelines, Terms of Service, and User Guidelines. If any of the above you referenced is accurate, then you'd need to stop the dispute talk.
OK, disclaimer out of the way, and speaking from personal experience, do not dispute. If the info is inaccurate, assuming your Macys acct is as such, the last thing you'd ever want to do is dispute. Over the years, Macys has gradually bought out other companies. Do your research before assuming that it is not yours. If that Macys is removed, your AAoA will likely drop along w/ your score. If you really think that it isn't yours, then contact Macys and talk to them about it.
For your CapOne account, again, do not dispute. It is reporting accurately. They will continue to report "OK" long after you close the TL in good standing. If you owed a balance, they can report you late every single month up until the account is sold, paid, or settled.
With your medical, then disputing is OK, but look at the HIPAA process first and provide proof to the CRA that the debt is over 7 yrs old (org. bill).
You may have mentioned others, but I did the same you are doing now and perfectly good accounts were deleted, I lost tons of history, a fraud alert got placed on DW's reports, we were labled "frivilous disputers", our AAoA dropped from 9 yrs to 2 yrs, and we faced increased collection activity. If inaccurate, disputing is the last thing you'd ever want to do.
I know. I know. Doing things backward, or trying to take the simple road, or idle curiosity is a good part of why I am where I am. (And if I'm being honest, trying to duck and run is an old habit and a nasty one...)
So to clarify just so I don't feel like a total knucklehead.... Correct is the more appropriate word for what I have to do with most of the info on my CRs. Not dispute. Correct. My name is wrong. Ditto all other personal info. Some of the dates don't seem to jibe with my personal recollection. There's stuff on there that I have never heard of. Probably accurate? But I want to be thorough.
So...I've read the links you attached, (thanks) but only after I started, and got lost, in the Orman product. And I highly reccomend them as a starting place for any other newcomers who, like me, think a little bit of smarts will compensate for complete lack of actual knowledge.
I feel like I'm a little bit more armed to deal with these issues. Per previous advice you reccomended, by getting organized and taking a thoughtful and thorough approach, rather then the "lets just see what this button does" approach. Which is why I'm trying to get back into the TU list so I can print it and actually respond with some premeditation. Thanks for bearing with me. And thanks, sincerely, for the help and advice. I think I'll take a couple of days to read and reflect before I open the next door. Hope your day is a good one.
Good point. I was under the impression that you were filing disputes (update your info) this is recommend in the Orman kit. The only things I've ever seen that program pull as something that may warrent a message (dispute) is for missing fields such as address, employment info, phone #, email, etc.
Was that not your intention?
