I am not terribly surprised that CCT might be making this decision (if indeed they are). I have always gently suggested to folks that using the $1 CCT trick quarterly might be better than doing it all the time, since such frequent use could only hasten the day when CCT closed the loophole for everyone.
I too fear that things are a-changin' at CCT and would not be surprised if the $1 trials go away relatively soon. I actually called Experian today because I've been getting a ton of "Your Password Change Request" emails from CCT. I've never tried changing my PW. Any time I cancel a trial membership I usually get 10-15 of these emails (13 this past time) over the course of the 4 days following my cancellation. It's just annoying. I spoke to CS about this today and they looked into it for me. He did say, "I see you've done a lot of the trials and cancellations..." and I of course agreed. He did not indicate that it was a bad thing or that I shouldn't be doing it. He did say that he could see on my account that I called and complained about the same issue back in April, which is about when it started happening as far as I can recall. He said that he's seen this problem happen sometimes with "older" accounts. Mine is probably a little over a year old now, which I guess constitutes "older" in their book. He said that they're moving to a newer platform through the Experian site and suggested in the future that I may want to visit Experian.com for my membership. From his suggestion, you'd be lead to believe that through Experian.com you'd be able to find $1 trials as well, but of course there are not. I saw the standard 3B reports/scores for $39.95 yadda yadda. He did say he would "re-cancel my membership" (that I just cancelled 2 days ago, successfully) and that hopefully that would result in the emails stopping and he said he changed a setting which should help me not get non-essential emails from CCT. We'll see what happens. I am curious to see though if the $1 CCT trials go away in the upcoming weeks/months. There's definitely a feel in the air that this could be the case.
Yep. I went through the same thing with the password change emails. I told the girl if they didn't want to give me my scores daily they should fix their system and lower the price. She halfheartedly agreed but then admonished me again for knowing better. I guess I should be thankful she didn't put me in time out. lol
If that does happen, we on the forum should huddle to see if we can think of a good alernative for newcomers whom we can see would benefit from pulling their FICO 8 scores. I am used to being able to say: "it sounds like you need to get acquainted with your reports and your scores... I encourage you to get both at CCT. It will only cost you $1."
It's hard for me in good conscience to push the myFICO Ultimate product because it is so pricey. Some people like it and that's great. But I feel awkward pushing our own CMS when it costs so much. I also feel awkward pushing people to get free FICOs through credit cards since that might induce to newcomers to open credit cards solely to obtain scores. CCT was such a nice alternative
The free monthly FICO 8 through Experian is an honest alternative I can suggest, though newcomers need to be seeing their EQ and TU FICO 8 scores too.
Does anyone know anything about freescoreonline? I posted a thread about this yesterday and evidently the mods killed it as fast as I put it up, but I received no PM or anything indicating why. In looking at this service, it appears there's a free 7 day trial available that gets your your 3B reports and 3 scores. The problem is, it doesn't say what those 3 scores are. They could be VS 3.0 for all I know. I poked around for a while reading the fine print and I still don't see what type of scores they are providing. I'd also like to know if the 7 day trial is legit in that if you cancel during the 7 days you won't actually get charged anything.
If this service does work and provides FICO 08 scores, while it wouldn't be as nice as CCT since I doubt you'd be able to do trials again and again, it could be a solid one-time source to recommend to those looking for their 3B reports/scores as newcomers.
Unsure what they are, but they are not FICO scores. Here's a sentence from the Terms And Conditions:
You further acknowledge and agree that any credit scores provided to you as part of the Services are not FICO scores.
Great catch CGID, I did not see that. So that option is out the window, then.

I've been getting two $1 trials a month. I wasn't even aware you could get it more often or I would have. 😂 I agree it's probably going to dry up because since June 2016, I've been able to cancel without going through a CSR. Now for the last two months, cancelling via automation wasn't an option. A person started answering and now I get questioned, "why are you cancelling?" I get the feeling this is happening because they believe, probably correctly, that some people would end of not cancelling just to avoid speaking to someone. But that's not me! I don't have a problem saying, "I want to cancel something and that no, there's no particular reason for doing so." Matter-of-the-fact, today I cancel my 24th 7-day free trial 😂
I agree with this 100%. When I get questioned I just tell them flat out that I can't afford the monthly service, but can afford the periodic $1 trials. They always say no problem and cancel me right away. It is annoying that it's been exceedingly more difficult to cancel via the automated system though for sure.
