change in status dates?

Why sometimes when you dispute an account with the cra and it comes back as verified  that SOMETIMES the status date changes (updates to present date) and sometimes it doesn't (remains old and the same as it was before dispute).

If the status date doesn't change does that mean the CRAS didn't really verify it?

  I have had to send in new disputes with the specific information on when the status date should be to have it corrected when the CRAs incorrectly change it.

Hmm interesting...

 Did the cras change it back to what it was before?

I had thought of trying that just wasn't sure if the CRAs would change it ( one of them was a charge off and the new status date made it look like a new charge off..when if fact it was 4 years old...this resulted in 47 point down on myfico!)....I was thinking they would/or may just reset the status date again to an even newer one!

I still can't seem to find out though why some of the accounts had the status date changed yet others didn't

  I had the exact same problem.  It made it look like the CO was 2/2008 instead of 08/06 when it was actually paid off.  I redisputed stating what all the dates should be and made it clear that while it was updated on 02/2008, that it should be reported with the correct closed/status date.  It was changed within a couple of days.

I'm going to give it a try disputing the status date then..

mine may be a bit different to yours though as although it is a collection it isn't listed as paid (although I am paying there collection dept).

 Status date is feb 2008 ..last activity Nov 2004..

You can try to dispute the status, but if it's still not paid off yet I would think it would be legal to change status as current collection.  Let me know what happens.

How did you dispute? Phone, fax, mail, website? I have a GMAC charge-off that was in 2005 and the Date last reported is 2007...so it looks as if my CO was in 2007 and not 2005.

my dispute of status date ..(note I disputed the updated date only)... was denied as frivilous!

I called them up today and they told me at TU the date wouldn't effect my scores..I told them it did!!

..I wasn't disputing the charge off or the date of charge off, or dofd...just the date in FEB it was verifyed making it look like a new charge off..they didn't understand!

I even talked to there supervisor..still no luck..they don't believe the status date makes any difference (my point then was ok if it makes no difference change the date back to what it was!)..no ONLY the OC could do that.

How can I fix this? it cost me 47 points (ok DH) for a charge off that happened 4 years ago...I KNOW this is what is the point drop is from as it says new charge off ..1 month old on my fico ..and that is the only charge off I  have (dh has).

I disputed by net.  Checked off "other" and wrote in my information.

You may want to add about the "frivolous" response with this "FCRA Section 611(a)(1)(A)clearly states that upon receipt of a dispute Experian is to perform an investigation."
