Hi Everyone,
I have been charged for a service that I did not use nor it wasn't in my name for the last five years. I would like to dispute all of those charges. It will be around $1200. Will it hurt my credit card account or my credit score if I do it?
It is a Discover card and this is what they say on their website that Discover Card does not impose a time limit on disputes.

I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
You are apparently considering filing a dispute under the FCBA related to billing issues rather than a dispute under the FCRA relating to accuracy of credit reporting?
What do you mean?
If you are disputing the accuracy of billings per se, that is done under the provisions of the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), which provides a process for disputing any credit card billing issue, regardless of whether the creditor has reported to a CRA and it is thus also showing in your credit report.
The FCBA normally requires disputes to be made within 120 days of becoming aware of the billing issue. However, the credtior is apparently saying that they will not dismiss a billing related dispute becauser of timeliness of the dispute.
Disputes under the FCRA relate to the accuracy of their reporting to a CRA. If the billing related issue has also resulted in the reporting of information to a CRA, such as balances on the account, that you consider inaccurate, you can dispute under the FCRA.
The two dispute processes have different requirments and procedures, The FTC web page provides a summary of how to file a dispute under the FCBA, which normally provides for requireents upon the creditor that are not provided under the FCRA disptue process, such as providing supporting documentation in support of their finding.
Thanks for the thorough explanation Robert! So far the disputes I have made online have never been shown on my credit report and I was planning on going there and disputing all the fradulent transactions as far as I can. That only takes me back about a year.... I guess I would have to make a call for more.
I do not have any documentation for those however. Those recurring charges were for services for another person that I did not autorize.
I worry that if I dispute so many transactions the credit card company will consider me as a risk for them and could close my account or spike my apr. I still have a balance on that account.
I think you would be wastng your time. Its been charged to your account monthy for 5 yers and you are waiting until now?
