say u applying for credit card they pull expirian and equifax , but u have latepayment on equifax . u dispute the bureau about that late payment , the bank pulls both. the see experian is good , what about equifax file, do they see the latepayment ? or they just see its in dispute?

@myfarouco Unless the dispute process was already resolved with a removal of the late payment it remains visible on your file.

I guess another question is whether the disputed late payment is scored as late
It does not remove the late payment from your report during the dispute process. It will mark the item as under dispute but will show on the report if your credit is pulled. If the dispute is successful then it will be deleted but until then it's there to stay
Additionally, it is scored while under dispute. The initiation of the dispute will only mark it as under dispute.

@Anonymous How does one verify this? I have 5 lates from 2018 but not sure if they are factored into my score at this point. Definitely still visible though as the account isn't scheduled to drop off until Feb 2025.

If it's visible it's being scored and credit issuers can see it.

You can see if any score reason codes include delinquent payments, but the true way to find out is to wait after the last one drops off and see if you score goes up. I had a single 30 day late and while its impact did lessen over time, it still impacted my score until the very end when it dropped.
If they are set to drop off in feb you could try disputing as too old to report and hope for the best.
Experian is known to remove negatives 3 months early.
I personally have had a collection removed from exp 6 months early thru online dispute.

HPs, while in dispute, don't affect credit score. Dispute review typically is decided within 30 days. After the dispute is complete, the HP will count against you if the ruling is not in your favor.
The same applies for late payments in dispute. If the dispute process is complete and the late still shows, it will count against you.
If a HP dispute is successful, the HP gets reclassed as a SP so it won't affect score even though it remains on the CRA report. In contrast, a successful late dispute should result in its removal from the report. A late still on the report after the dispute is closed indicates the challenge was not upheld.
