I want to get my credit score back to above 720. Currently, the range of all 3 are 641 to 659. I was a victim of credit card fraud back in late 2005. My credit score dropped from 732 to 495. This was discovered during a background check for a contingent new job offer. Because the job had fiduciary responsibility, personal credit rating/score was important. The prospective new employer gave me 1 month to clear up the issues or the job offer would be rescinded. After speaking with the creditors, it was impossible to clear these items up in 1 month with the documents required to prove fraud. There were 5 new accounts opened in my name. In order to keep the job with a salary above $100k, the employer agreed to accept 5 years of previous credit reports showing excellent payment history (I provided 1999-2004) and statements indicating that the fraud accounts had been settled/cleared. One of the creditors suggested to settle, then pursue the fraud. This semed to be the best option, so I offered to the creditors to settled all of the accounts for 70% to obtain paid in full statements. I would continue the process of proving fraud. They all accepted my agreement, but I made the mistake of not requesting that these accounts be removed from my credit reports. The accounts were all paid in October 2005. At this point, they all state "paid in full for less than balance". Since I paid the accounts, the creditors keep stating that this indicates the accounts were valid. I have written several letters and made multiple calls to get these items removed from my credit report without success. I now have a new mortage $300K (11/06), VISA (12/06), new car loan (6/07), and and a $25K installment loan (6/07) with current balance of $12K. I opened the VISA and installment loan to improve my score, but the old items far outweigh these new accounts.
I need some suggestions of what I can do to speed up the process of improving my score.
Thanks
