how do you handle an account with an incorrect report date?

i am trying to dispute the date an item was reported my account with verizon that wont remove the item the one item i cannot get removed.  They are reporting the item was sent to collection in 2007 but it was sent in 2005 and i paid it off in 2007.  I tried disputing online but it will not allow me to because it was verified by them and will not allow me to further dispute it. how do i go about handling this?

I have the same problem with Verizon. They keep reporting the same thing that occurred in 2002 and saying it occured in 2005.
