It might result in a fraud alert- I don't think you can do it onlne, but I would call TU if it is not legit. If its truly fraud you need to closely monitor your reports.

IMO, a fraud alert may be in order if it wasn't legit. With the day and age of ID theft you never can be too careful. If you think a crime took place, then file a police report and make a report to the FTC.

As llecs said, if these are not legit and are for reputable companies that you've not dealt with(CAs excluded) then you need to take the steps to see if your ID has been used.

 

If these are not the result of ID theft and are the result of the creditor not having PP to pull your credit, then you need to send the creditor a non-PP letter.
