public record removal?

Hi,

I have a public record on my account resulting from a bad debt/collection from a credit card that was filed in regional/local court in May 2007 and then paid in full before the court date. It was around $500. On both credit reports I have obtained, the status of the record is not given, meaning it does not show that I paid off the debt. I am certain this is hurting my score.

Can anyone direct me in the right direction to have the payment reflected and/or the record removed from my credit report?

Thanks!!!!

Rebecca

Re: public record removal?

Get a certified copy of the court docket and dismissal.  Send it to the CRAs with a copy of the cancelled settlement check and ask that the status be updated to dismissed or paid in full.  They will most like confirm the status with the CA and the court, then update the TL.

The CRAs are very mean about removing public records.  Those of us who are unlucky enough to have one or two are the pariahs of the credit world.

Rebeccak,

I would work to get this off of your file.  FICO reads paid an unpaid judgments the same, so updating it as paid won't make much of a difference, you may even lose a few points.  Ideally if this was paid before the court date it shouldn't appear as a judgment.  Do you have anything showing it is paid?
