Hello,
I was looking through carefully my CR's I pulled in December for annual free reports. I noticed that my mortgage account which is positive tradeline without any lates had a notation "Account in dispute by consumer" This was true for all three reports. Strange thing is that I never disputed anything at all. My report is completely clean and I have no reason to dispute.
So, I got worried when I so this and pulled another report form TU and so that the notation was now gone. I haven't done that yet with the other 2.
What could have happened here? The mortgage has a joint holder, my dad, on it. If he had disputed something (I don't think he'd know how), can this show up in my reports? Seems unlikely. Could the creditor (citimortgage) has incorrectly reported that the account was being disputed? Should I be worried about ID theft?
Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Could have been a simple keying error when the creditor reported their prior monthlies, and was entered correctly this month.
Hmm. I just pulled Experian and the notation is still there. Should I do anything about it? I still haven't pulled a new equifax.
Were any calls or letters sent to the lender that questioned the account in any way? Some creditors do mark the dispute comment after actions like that. I had a CapOne CC get marked as disputed after I called them once asking if they wouldn't mind removing a late. I had a car note that was marked in dispute after I would send GWs. It happens.
FICO-wise, there's no negative impact with that comment reporting though could be an issue if you were to refi down the road. Personally I would let it be to see if there's any change. There isn't an ID theft issue since the bad guy won't dispute, but as long as your payments are clearing then it's all good. I'd wait it out to see what happens.
