Question on behalf of my husband. He had been doubling up on payments on installment loan. Skipped one month "thinking" he was paid up. The bank reported him as 30 days late because he didn't specifically designate the extra monies to go toward the next payment. Score has dropped 60 pts and he's mad! What can we do? Order our original contract and actually read all of the fine print, just dispute or ask the kind bank for forgiveness?? Open for suggestions.

Hi REgnlor, because this is a valid late, stinks I know, we can't recommend that you dispute it. However, you should try a GW letter, and show your pattern of doubling up on payments and that you weren't missing the payment on purpose, but that you didn't understand how it works. You need to appeal to the human side of the individual that you are going to be talking/writing to.

I was asking if this is a local establishment. Because if it is, they are more apt to work with you on something like this. I also had recommended that you take a visit to them, if they are local.

This was a SW report from Jan and yes its a local bank. We have two loans with them and have aggressively been paying them. One always double the other (the late one) mostly double. I was shocked to hear this explanation. I'll give it a try. Puppy dog eyes, crocodile tears ALWAYS more effective in person. Thanks al!

Wow!! Spoke with one of the loan officers regarding the latee payment. He noted our great payment history and did say he could make an adjustment! He said it could take a month or two but who cares when it comes to getting rid of a 30-day late!! Thanks for the awesome advice everyone!!
