security freeze and creditkarma

It seems as if after I had frozen all my reports, CK is unable to get an updated one!

I also tried to sign up for creditsesame and gave me a security freeze error code also while retrieving the EX report.

I thought the freeze was only supposed to prevent hard pulls?

Anyone else had such issues? Any solutions besides paying to "defrost"? And how come I am asked to pay to remove the freeze when my state (MI) should be free according to their table?

After I froze my accounts, Credit Karma failed for me as well.  I've been investigating signing up for some Credit Monitoring Services and have read USAA is highly recommended.  I called them today and they confirmed that to sign up for the service, I'd have to un-freeze the accounts to give them access.
