should i try for an amex?

My ex is 633, and I'm paying down 2 closed CC accounts and have 1 leftover open CC with a $500 limit. Plus I'm an AU on an AMEX for work and my ma's discover. Is it worth it to try to apply for an amex?

If so - which one? I've heard a lot about the Delta sky miles? and hh?

I appreciate all suggestions!

I think you have a good chance at getting Delta. You can later convert that to Blue. It worked for many of us here.

I'd say you have a good chance for both Delta and HHonors.

Remember you have a BK though. Big difference. Smiley Happy Score is not everything.

Re: should i try for an amex?

How about this:
-Never filed BK
-Had an AMEX charged off in 1998, paid in full last month to them.
-Applied in June, was denied due to AMEX closing a past account (which is now paid)
-EX: 633
-14 inq's on EX with 7 of those within the last 6 mos.

I'm worried that the inquiries may kill my chances, also my util is pretty high on current report (actually paid down but waiting for the monthly update). How are my chances?

Watch your mailbox. Once you PIF a defaulted AMEX, they generally extend an offer for an Optima card.

What about Delta Gold and/or Blue?

I would hold off, for now.

Contact AMEX and ask about the Oasis program. There are 3 contact numbers. You might have to try one or more of the numbers.

Tell them you had a defaulted AMEX card, that you PIF, and you understand AMEX may offer you an Optima card under the Oasis program. They might tell you it's by invitation only, and you cannot apply. If so, thank them, be polite, and don't fuss at 'em.

They generally send an Oasis Optima offer within a month of paying off your defaulted CC.

Once you get the Optima offer, fill it out and return it. After they issue the Optima, then I'd apply for an AMEX Green and Delta.

Blue might be 6 months to a year away, once you get your Optima. Good news is that you can convert one AMEX CC into another--if both are charge or both are credit. Either Delta or Optima could later be converted to Blue.

Re-opening an old, closed Amex

Just read the string about the Oasis program and others with problems with Amex.... working on rebuilding my credit scores from some stupid and lazy mistakes....while I am making great progress thanks to the folks here...moved both wife and my credit score over 75 points in the last 6 weeks...expect another 50 point in the next month or two as a few more fixes hit the reports. Biggest issue now is I closed most of my cards 3-4 years ago and replaced them...so my "open" credit age is pretty short and counting against me on the scores. I bring this up here because one of the cards I had closed after having it open since 1986 is an Amex. I thought I read somewhere here about getting a closed account --with no negatives -- re-opened. If that is the case I would love to re-open this card so I can get a boost in my "credit age". Any advice on how to do this? Thanks
