stolen card

Question. I had a card that was lost. I called for another except the other went to someone elses house and they charged a few things on it (because the card was already active). I called to let the ccc know. My question is can I have this deleted because I never got the card?  How does it work for lost and stolen cards. The CCC rep told me basicaly I was responsible for someone elses theft. Smiley Mad

Re: stolen card

You need to make a police report (which means your neighbor could be in deep doo-doo).  Once done, dispute the charges with the card issuer and the CRB's (include a copy of the report).  They have no choice but to delete and credit your account; it's the law.

However, that being said; it isn't always that easy but persistance will win out in the end.

Good luck.

Re: stolen card

This was in 2006. I have no idea who got the card. Large apt. complex with mailroom type boxes. I guess because it was a replacement card it was already activated in the mail. No police report. CCC confirmed it was reported lost/stolen. I ened up paying the balance, which was part of the old card. On my CR it shows 2 accounts with 2 different account numbers.  Just seams that the stolen one should be removed because it was not my fault. It is in the baddie side. Thanks for all the help I have learned a lot about credit from this place. On a side note I have found many people know nothing of how credit works and how important it is.

Re: stolen card

It may be too late, but you really need to try to file a police report. Getting it removed without the police report would be next to impossible, especially since you paid it. If you opt not to file a police report, then all you can do is to send a GW to the CCC asking them to delete. They don't have to but it's worth a shot.

If this happens again, immediately call the police. You can dispute with the CRAs w/ a copy of the police report. Without it, the CRAs will get verification from the OC that you paid it and doing that demonstrates that it's yours.

As far as the TL goes, whenever you lose or have a card stolen, the CCC will cancel and close the CC and then reissue it with a new number. That new TL will report. The old TL will typically be removed within 2 yrs and the other would report.

I moved your post because it wasn't so much a question about credit cards (which cards are good for travel, who issues cards post-BK, what's your APR, etc etc) as it was a question about credit and credit problems.
