unauthorized inquiry

maybe you guys can help me with what to do about this.

We have cap1's credit tracker, credit sesame and credit karma. Today cap1 and credit sesame alerted us to a new inquiry.

credit plus 31550 winterplace pkwy salisbury md 21804

We have not requested any credit, filled out any applications or done anything that would warrant a hard pull, except for when we applied for the Chase Freedom a couple weeks ago.

According to a google search this is a mortgage company so I am assuming that if it hit experian and TU then it probably hit EQ also. We definitely didn't need to apply for a mortgage considering we just bought a house in August.

How do I get rid of this, complain about it, make sure someone isn't using our data, etc. From the way it looks all other inquiries use our address as part of the verification method. This company used our old address AND our new address for the house we just bought.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: unauthorized inquiry

By any chance has your mortgage been sold recently?  Sometimes your mortgage company will pull your credit report a couple of months after you close, just to make sure you aren't misbehaving.  But you should have recognized the name if your mortgage hasn't been sold or in the process of being sold.

It might be worth it to call up the mortgage company that did the pull.  If it was a mistake, they can remove the HP.

I checked the BBB about this company and almost every single complaint was that these people pulled their credit without permission, supposedly on behalf of someone else.

We did get a notice that our mortgage was sold to Fannie Mae (they lied to us when we started working with them they said they never sell any of their loans) but that they would still be the servicer and that we would still make payments to our mortgage company. But that notice was like a month ago and this just happened yesterday. I don't see how a different company then the one we originally authorized could pull our credit without permission even if it did get sold. And it is not the same company that pulled our credit for our mortgage before.

Don't creditors usually make sure you are "behaving" by soft pulls. I don't see the need for a hard pull.

Re: unauthorized inquiry

It would take time for the new servicer to take control of the loan, etc.  But I agree there is no need for them to HP even if they are the new mortgage servicer.  In all of the papers you signed, there probably is some legal jargon saying they or who ever they sell the loan to can pull your credit.  This is probably just the new owner making sure mortgage they bought wasn't misrepresented by the lender who sold you the original mortgage.

I still believe it is worth calling them to make them explain why they pulled your credit.  It shouldn't have been needed, but I don't know how much leverage you are going to have if they pulled it for the new owners of the debt.

Maybe someone else can give you better information than me.  Neither of my two mortgages were ever sold.  I can only go by from second hand info.
