FHA Guidelines on Home Repairs

Are we required to use a licensed contractor to fix any repairs noted by the appraiser? Or can we do the repairs ourselves?

The repair is for loose vinyl siding on one side of the house. My step-dad is a retired contractor and he can easily do the repairs for us. I've reached out to my lender and still waiting....

Thanks ya'll!!

Re: FHA Guidelines on Home Repairs

It's fine to use your step-dad to repair this item as it's a pretty minor repair, the appraiser only goes back out to confirm the needed repairs have been completed, not who they have been done by.  If it was a more complex repair, for example a chimney that looked like it was going to topple or sourcing the cause of moisture, then a licensed professional would likely be needed.
